I can remember a very specific feeling when I first began to drive. I remember that dreaded moment when it was time to drive onto the freeway for the first time? Holy! Along with the adrenaline rush, I had to immediately get up to speed. Then, as fast as I could, I had to figure out how to merge into a lane. Once I got into my lane, I had to keep my eyes on the road and keep moving. I’m pretty sure we have this experience in common. It was pretty dang nerve wracking and scary for you; just as it was for me; right?
Launching into adulthood is kinda the same thing.
We woke up one day, and we were 18-years old. This was a time in our lives when everyone expected us to get into the fast lane of life. We were immediately expected to keep our eyes on the road and just keep moving. I, just like you, didn’t know where didn’t know where the road was going.
The problem is:
We are NOT taught how to “drive” in the slow or the fast lane of life. I also know that earning my high school diploma didn’t include learning about the fast lane of life; and truthfully, even earning my college degree didn’t do the job.
The fact is, there are many missing pieces for most people who are launching into adulthood. If we want to live our best life, we all need the wisdom that is directly related to real life living. I think we can agree that in reality, life becomes that scary merge onto the freeway. We all merge into a lane, and we keep moving way too fast just trying to keep up.
No one is teaching us how to figure out why, when, or where we are going. And sadly, we are not encouraged to take the time to learn about the “frivolous” topics that are “just part of life”.
I’ve watched this scenario play out over and over again, and this is why Life 101 was created. I want people everywhere to be educated and informed! Life truly doesn’t have to be this hard!
